Overview
Performs MRI procedures and related techniques to produce diagnostic images for physician interpretation. May be required to alternate shifts, weekends, holidays and call as necessary to provide quality patient care at assigned site(s). Works as part of a multidisciplinary team, serving on committees and participating in projects as requested. Assist MRI Coordinator with administrative duties as needed. Provides advanced clinical expertise and staff level leadership to the department. Able to instruct others on high level scanning protocols. Take lead role as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs procedures or examinations under the order of a licensed medical practitioner for diagnostic interpretation.
Prepares patient for procedures.
Provides patient instruction to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
Applies principles and policies of magnetic resonance safety to minimize risk to patient, self and others.
Selects and operates the magnetic resonance system, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, and associated equipment to achieve desired results.
Reports and documents MRI safety incidents / adverse events per protocol.
Positions the patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability, safety and comfort.
Immobilizes patients as required for appropriate examination.
Selects appropriate pulse sequences with consideration given to established protocols and other factors influencing data acquisition parameters.
Starts and maintains intravenous access, to include power injectable implanted ports / specialized lines
Operates MRI scanner and power injector to produce cross section images of patient anatomy for diagnostic purposes
Documents all information pertinent to MRI procedure in electronic medical record to include medication reconciliation.
Verifies consent / screening form.
Prepares and administers contrast media orally and intravenous maintaining aseptic technique
Assists the physician with interventional procedures.
Assists with medical record / image sharing as necessary
Evaluates images and data for technical quality.
Manipulates and reconstructs digital data for display, ensuring proper identification is evident.
Assumes responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
Uses radiology information systems (including PACS), completes all required records and reports, archives and submits images for physician review and interpretation.
Ability to perform independent high-level MRI studies such as but not limited to; all cardiac studies, run offs, conditional device protocols, and MRI procedural studies
Provides practical instruction to partners and students.
Instruction and expert training to new technologists
Expert level knowledge of electronic medical record and PACS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited radiography program or accredited MRI training program
Minimum Three (3) to Five (5) years experience required
CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE
ARRT Radiography registration required if ARRT (MR)
ARRT MRIor ARMRIT registration required
Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Passing the Driver's License Check and / or Credit Check (for those positions requiring).
Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and / or IL Health Care Workers Background Check.
Must be able to follow written / oral instructions.
