TheDepartment of Family Medicine (FAM), F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, invites highly qualified candidates to apply for the position ofAssistant, Associate or full Professor (tenure ineligible track). FAM is committed to excellence and leadership in education, research, andthe clinical practice of primary care and military medicine in all settings within the Military Healthcare System.

This position isresponsible for teaching, mentoring, and preparing USUHS medical students to assume roles as physicians in the U.S. Armed Services; workingacross departments and institutions to innovate and execute effective undergraduate medical education curricular content; supporting anddeveloping students and residents to serve primary care roles within the Military Healthcare System; and performing scholarly activity thatadvances the priorities of Family Medicine, primary care, military medicine, and medical education.

Duties : Theincumbent will serve as an Assistant, Associate or full Professor in the Department of Family Medicine, and as such, will be responsible forteaching, research, patient / clinical care activities, and administrative assignments.

Serves as an educator in support of theclinically and academically integrated SOM curriculum. The incumbent will be actively involved in the preparation, coordination,implementation, and teaching of the preclinical, core clerkship, and post-clerkship curricula. The incumbent will organize, develop, lead,and participate in small group teaching activities throughout the four-year curriculum, to include providing instruction to students insupport of the didactic core curriculum as appropriate to the incumbent’s particular specialty area. Responsible for teaching theappropriate methods for a history and physical examination and for demonstrating and assisting students with the integration of data inorder to develop appropriate differential diagnoses and the corresponding treatment plans.

Teaches and oversees the delivery ofcurricular "threads" and small group work in support of both the clinical and basic sciences including the preparation of written and verbalevaluations, the provision of interim and / or corrective feedback to students, and the preparation of formal assessments and recommendationsfor grades for all students with whom they work.

Delivers direct patient care to include all appropriate technical procedures.Oversee patient care performed by junior staff and students as appropriate to the incumbent’s expertise. Teaches and oversees medicalstudents on inpatient and outpatient services at Military Treatment Facilities where the incumbent will serve as a clinical preceptor and / oran attending clinician for specified periods throughout each year.

Participates and / or initiates research within FAM and collaborateswith departments to include fostering and guiding medical student research, particularly in support of student Capstone Projects and juniorfaculty research.

Writes and edits papers for publication as well as preparing texts, articles, monographs and other materials forresearch, educational, and administrative purposes. Prepares workshops, platform presentations, and posters for professional conferences asrequired.

Serves on departmental committees as a member of FAM and actively assists in other departmental tasks and responsibilitiesas required.

Serves on major standing committees and / or prepares and delivers staff reports. Represents the University atprofessional meetings, delivers lectures, and participates in meetings and panel discussions at other institutions. Maintains professionalcontacts with other medical schools and professional organizations throughout the country to locate and exchange information of mutualinterest.

Qualification Requirements : The incumbent must bring to this position a minimum of an earned M.D. or D.O.degree from an accredited university or institution, board certification in the specialty of Family Medicine, and a current, valid, andunrestricted state medical licensure.

This position requires : substantial experience and expertise in the provision of direct patientcare in the area of Family Medicine; recent experience in clinical teaching of medical students and / or residents; expertise and experienceas reflected by a significant number of scientific publications in critically reviewed scientific journals or peer-reviewed workshops ateducational meetings in area of expertise; active membership in scholarly societies appropriate to FAM; and effective written, oral, andinterpersonal skills to teach students, prepare educational materials / reports, and provide presentations in a public forum. The incumbentmust be academically qualified for a faculty appointment at the Assistant, Associate or full Professor level in accordance with SOM andUSUHS academic polices and guidelines.

The following knowledge and / or experience is highly desirable : experience in educationaladministration and curriculum development; research and / or clinical experience in the areas of military medicine, primary care workforcedevelopment, medical education, health systems, public health, epidemiology, or musculoskeletal medicine; current privileging in Geriatrics,Sports Medicine, or Obstetrics; and experience working with or in the Department of Defense and / or Federal health care organizations.

This position requires direct patient care and / or clinical activities; thus, the incumbent will be subject to pre-employment and randomdrug testing requirements under the USUHS Drug-Free Workplace Program.

Relocation expenses i.e., PCS or relocation incentives as described in 5 U.S.C 5733 maybe authorized in accordance with applicable travel regulations, command policy and available command funding.
