Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional and Classroom Support

  • Provide instructional support to the classroom teacher
  • assist with record keeping
  • preparation and development of instructional materials, and bulletin board displays
  • provide coverage for the classroom during teacher meetings
  • Operate a variety of classroom instructional equipment, including but not limited to computers, audiovisual equipment, and video equipment
  • Work with individual students and small groups on assignments; administer and grade tests
  • Check student work, including objective test materials
  • Assist with classroom management plan and special events

Student Management Support

  • Maintain attendance, behavioral, and cumulative records and logs; document student progress
  • Assist in the supervision of students during any school-sponsored activity occurring during the school day
  • Restrain or help restrain a student whose behavior is dangerous to himself and / or others

  • Minimum of 48 college hours or passing score on the Para Professional Assessment of Knowledge
  • Texas Educational aid Certification
  • Knowledge of all subject areas in the class to which assigned preferred
  • Knowledge of behavioral and learning disabilities preferred
  • Knowledge of childhood development and individual learning styles preferred
  • Knowledge of personal computers, and applicable software, including spreadsheets, word processing, and databases
  • Knowledge of instructional methods used in classroom management
  • Knowledge of testing techniques used to test students with various disabilities
  • Knowledge of restraint methods
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and school information
  • Ability to maintain alert attention regarding the supervision of students at all times
  • Ability to teach all subject levels on a one-on-one or group basis and modify work assignments
  • Ability to exercise self-control when responding to aggressive outbursts of pupils and assume a supportive
  • and understanding attitude at all times
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and positive communications with students, teachers, parents, and other school personnel
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and directions in carrying out tasks and procedures related to instructional and behavioral plans
  • Ability to develop and present written and oral reports, summaries, or budget documents.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions
  • Ability to maintain required records and organize, categorize, and file documents according to standard procedures
  • Ability to observe students and record their behavior on behavior point sheets

Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
