We are seeking a Senior Payroll Tax Analyst to oversee all aspects of payroll tax compliance across North America, South America, and other global markets. This role will work closely with the Senior Payroll Manager, ensuring accurate and timely completion of tax compliance activities on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical skillset and a focus on continuous improvement and automation of tax processes. Based in the Draper, UT Shared Services Center, this role will support a workforce of over 80,000 employees. A subject matter expert in global payroll tax processes (with a focus on the US), the Senior Payroll Tax Analyst will ensure tax compliance, resolve employee inquiries, and minimize penalties.
Tesla's Finance Payroll team plays a critical role in supporting the business with timely, accurate payroll tax compliance. By leveraging business intelligence and analytics, we aim for 100% compliance and timely reporting. We focus on producing clear, accurate, and comprehensive employment tax reporting, ensuring a single-source-of-truth for both internal and external stakeholders. This position will take on significant corporate initiatives and responsibilities to support our goals.
Responsibilities
- Ensure daily accuracy and timeliness of employee tax setup and updates
- Manage the accurate reporting of payroll taxes to all agencies on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
- Oversee the filing of quarterly and annual tax documents, including 941s, State Unemployment Reports, W-2, W-3, T-4, RL-1, and other relevant forms for multiple countries
- Ensure all employment taxes are paid and reported on time, addressing any discrepancies promptly
- Track and analyze payroll tax remittance and accuracy metrics, using insights for process improvements and internal reporting
- Use Cognos BI and other system software tools to generate audits and reports; make corrections and adjustments based on audit results
- Respond to payroll tax inquiries via in-person requests, support tickets, phone calls, and emails
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a finance-related field (preferred)CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification (preferred)10+ years of payroll management experience in the US and Canada, with 3+ years in multi-state payrollStrong communication skills for resolving complex tax issues with jurisdictional authoritiesExperience in developing payroll tax processes and proceduresProven problem-solving and issue resolution skillsKnowledge of UltiPro payroll and tax systems (preferred)Compensation and Benefits
