Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Primary Support for IT Infrastructure : Serve as the primary administrator for the Rochester Public Schools IT infrastructure, including both virtual and physical servers, storage systems, and the network environment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Backup and Restoration Management : Oversee the backup strategy, ensuring regular testing of file and server restorations, and ensuring strict adherence to service-level agreement (SLA) requirements. This responsibility is critical and cannot be delegated, making it a key aspect of the role.
  • Virtualized Environments Management : Manage and maintain the district's virtualized environments using VMware, ensuring that virtual machines (VMs) are optimized, secure, and compliant with district standards.
  • Physical Infrastructure and Storage Oversight : Oversee and manage physical servers, NAS storage systems, and backup storage, ensuring reliability, redundancy, and continuous operation.
  • Endpoint Security and Vulnerability Administration : Oversee strategies for endpoint administration. Assist in managing and enhancing endpoint security, vulnerability assessment, and mitigation, ensuring devices and servers are safeguarded from emerging threats.
  • Cloud Service Administration : Implement and co-manage cloud-based services, including Microsoft Intune, for device management and cloud infrastructure, ensuring that cloud resources are effectively integrated and secure.
  • Security and Vulnerability Management : Perform regular patching, updates, and vulnerability management across the infrastructure, ensuring systems adhere to the latest security standards and compliance regulations.
  • On-Call Support : Provide on-call support for server infrastructure during both business hours and after hours, ensuring continuous availability and high performance.
  • Incident Response and Issue Resolution : Respond promptly to outages and system issues across various school building sites, resolving server and storage-related problems and minimizing downtime to maintain high availability.
  • Collaboration and Cross-Departmental Coordination : Collaborate with other departments to understand IT requirements, provide input for capacity planning, and support infrastructure upgrades.
  • Helpdesk and Maintenance Support : Assist the Network Services team with helpdesk ticket management, including resolving customer service issues, providing server maintenance, and contributing to data center operations.
  • Strategic Infrastructure Planning : Contribute to the district's long-term strategic planning for network expansion, systems integrations, and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring scalability and future growth

Job Requirements : Minimum Qualifications :

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and / or ability required.

  • Minimum two (2) year degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Four (4) years of experience, certification, or equivalent in server and network management.
  • Experience with virtualized environments, virtual and physical servers, infrastructure and backup systems. Microsoft Intune and Entra experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of server patching, vulnerability management, data redundancy and cloud services in large enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge and experience with TCP / IP stack, multicast routing, routing protocols, and VoIP.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows servers, Active Directory, Command Line, Powershell, LDAP, DNS, DHCP, GPOs, and automation tools and utilities.
  • Ability to learn and implement new technologies with strong server and network capacity planning skills.
  • Job Requirements : Skills and Abilities :

  • Expert knowledge of server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and storage systems.?
  • Proficiency in configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining enterprise server environments.
  • Experience with cloud-based device, app, and data management suites; particularly Microsoft Intune.
  • Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Experience with automation, patching and monitoring tools for server, endpoint and network management.
  • Effective communication, customer service, and time management skills.
  • Experience with enterprise systems backup and recovery strategies and processes.
  • Ability to gather requirements, create work plans, and manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Light Work : Exerting up to 70 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. Fine finger dexterity.
