Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Wind Collection Electrical Engineer to join our renewables team. The Electrical Engineer – Wind Collection serves as an engineer on the Balance of Plant (BOP) for on-shore wind farms. He / she will apply NESC, NEC, IEEE and other applicable codes and standards in order to independently produce : electrical collection system layout plans, one-line diagrams, fiber optic single line diagrams, and low and medium voltage electrical construction drawings for typical components including switchgear, generator step-up transformers, junction boxes, direct buried cable, duct banks, and splices. He / she should be familiar with all aspects of three phase medium voltage power distribution engineering and be able to perform typical power systems studies as described below. He / she will be capable of leading a design team which may consist of more junior engineers as well as electrical designers and CAD designers. He / she must also work with other internal and external project stakeholders to ensure project milestones and expectations of contracted services are met. Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs all aspects of design for medium voltage (typically 35 kV) including the following :
- Calculations and Analysis
- Underground cable thermal analysis
- Electrical loss analysis of conductors and transformers
- Short circuit analysis
- Effective grounding calculations
- Electrical grounding for safety (touch and step potential)
- Fiber optic loss calculations
- Load flow and reactive power analysis
- Harmonics analysis
- Arc flash analysis
- Review of utility scale renewable energy project interconnection requirements
- Technical Documentation
- Development of technical specifications for Balance of Plant equipment
- Development of bills of materials for electrical installations
- Development of installation instructions and construction drawing details
- Coordination with Other Disciplines
- Ability to work closely with internal and external civil engineering, structural, geotechnical, and environmental staff to produce a well coordinated and constructable design.

- Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances.

- Attending all client technical review meetings.
Required Experience (Text Only)
Minimum of 4 years related work experience in the field of medium voltage collection system design for renewable energy systems or underground medium voltage power distributionBasic proficiency in use of AutocadStrong proficiency in the use of Cymcap software for underground thermal analysis of electrical conductorsStrong proficiency in an electrical power system analysis tool such as Digsilent Power Factory, ETAP or similar for performing short circuit, load flow, harmonics and arc flash analysisBasic familiarity with software for perfoming electric grounding analysis for safety (touch and step potential) such as WinIGS or CDEGSStrong familiarity with the NEC and National Electrical Safety CodeGood knowledge of the industry and technology trends specific to wind turbine generators and wind collection design.Salary range for this position is $80,000-130,000 annually.
