Job Summary

The Director of Engineering Operations role is a senior-level, full-time, permanent position. This position is fully remote, allowing you to work from home Monday - Friday each week. The Director of Engineering Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the company by working with management to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans and policies.

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of the company's plans and programs as a strategic partner
  • Enhance, develop, implement and / or enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company
  • Improve project budgeting process on a continual basis through education of project managers, project leads and executive team
  • Act as an advisor from the financial perspective on any contracts into which the company may enter into
  • Evaluate operations team, plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group as well as providing individuals with professional and personal growth with emphasis on opportunities (where possible) of individuals
  • Monitor KPI's set forth by the company managing partners
  • Creates / reviews engineering estimates and proposals, and directly assists the business development team with client interface
  • Performs internal quality audits
  • Performs engineering design reviews
  • Develops, implements, monitors and maintains quality standards and policies
  • Reviews customer feedback and uses this to inform quality processes and decisions
  • Ensures that processes meet required standards
  • Maintains and communicates client standards
  • Directs staff and teams across the company to ensure quality frameworks are implemented
  • Performs engineering support as company workload dictates

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises a total of 2-3 employees directly and a department of up to 25 indirectly
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these direct reports
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws
  • Other responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Requirements

    Required Skills and Abilities

  • A progressive career in a technical field including project management
  • Excellent technical communication and detail-oriented work practices
  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited university in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) required
  • 8+ years of experience in relay protection and control design of high voltage 15-500 kV substations
  • 8+ years of experience in executive level management
  • Experience in managing a small business preferred
