GENERAL FUNCTION : Under the direct supervision of the Branch Executive Director, the Membership Director is responsible for managing all facets of the Membership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Plan, coordinate, market and initiate membership promotions to generate new members, renewing existing members and converting program members.
  • Recruit, select, train, and evaluate departmental staff for Front Desk and Child Watch.
  • Make recommendations on market opportunities, coordinate primary research and establish an accurate and thorough demographic profile of the Association's membership.
  • Attend relevant community events with opportunities to promote the YMCA.
  • Prepare and submit reports documenting monthly activities and progress.
  • Plan, develop, and work within an annual budget emphasizing income production and expense control. Submit variance reports as required.
  • Leads departments' participation in Y's Annual Campaign.
  • Participate in MOD (Manager on Duty) schedule as required.
  • Supervise Welcome Center and Child Watch operations.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to all members and guests. Develop a system for staff to handle complaints and objections in a way that is viewed positively from the member's perspective.
  • Assist in the integration of departments to achieve seamless delivery of services to members and guests.
  • Identify and implement best practices for member engagement utilizing Daxko engage.
  • Develop and promote among staff the best "Tour Practices" and expectations.
  • Track tour conversions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in marketing and / or communications
  • 2 + years prior marketing or sales experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent supervisory / leadership skills and the ability to effectively discipline, counsel, and evaluate staff.
  • Computer literate; working knowledge of various software packages including Microsoft Office, e-mail and Internet.
  • Ability to interact well with all levels of general public, members, guests, staff and management; professional demeanor and appearance with an outgoing and friendly personality.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • The ability to seek, interpret and respond to the latest marketing research, and present the YMCA story to community leaders, corporate and governmental bodies, and various associations.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Sensitivity to, understanding, and support of the YMCA mission and core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be alert at ALL times and be attentive to the activity within the fitness room. The employee is frequently required to hear, walk, stand, sit, talk on the telephone, and work on a computer. The employee is occasionally required to drive, instruct fitness classes and spot members using free weights. May lift and carry supplies and boxes of materials weighing up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust and focus.

    EFFECT ON END RESULT : This position has a direct impact on the overall effectiveness with which the YMCA meets its goals and objectives. The effectiveness of the Membership Director will be evaluated annually and is measured by the degree to which the YMCA is self sufficient in meeting and surpassing membership acquisition and retention goals. General performance will be evaluated as follows : knowledge of job, achievement of planned goals and objectives, relations with fellow employees, quality of work, attendance record and attitude. A professional and positive attitude with a high level of enthusiasm should be exhibited at all times while performing duties.
