GENERAL FUNCTION :
Responsible for assisting in preparing live and taped public affairs content for C-SPAN networks and ensuring that all program elements are prepared for air. Develops and maintains program schedules, edits video content and provides research and organizational support as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Researches and produces daily coverage of congressional, administration briefings and other assigned public affairs events, identifying and communicating the most relevant and newsworthy aspects of assigned events.
- Prepares next day'a events for live and / or taped coverage. Writes event descriptions and graphics and also schedules events on on-air rundowns.
- Assists in implementing daily programming schedules for C-SPAN, C-SPAN2, or C-SPAN3. Works with producers to ensure alignment with editorial and presentation guidelines.
- Assists Content Producers by monitoring network pool and C-SPAN programming for editorial content and quality control. Consistently identifies and communicates to all platforms the most newsworthy and relevant aspects of assigned events in a timely and accurate manner.
- Writes and prepares on-air copy, graphics and schedule information, ensuring accuracy in scripts and visuals, with supervision from Coordinating Producer.
- Researches C-SPAN archives for potential obituary material or special programming.
- Maintains accurate and detailed information on programming for the TV networks.
- Prepares accurate program logs for use by technical teams.
- Edits programming in Dalet content management system, coordinating workflow for video and graphics.
- Schedules timely and relevant event promotions in program transitions.
- If producing live coverage, provides clear guidance to editorial and technical staff on presentation matters.
- Processes phone calls for viewer call-in segments.
- Other duties as assigned.
BACKGROUND / SKILLS :
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Political Science, Journalism, or related field.Minimum two years of related experience, preferably in electronic media or on Capitol Hill.Strong knowledge and interest in politics, government and public affairs.Excellent organizational, grammatical, writing and spelling skills.Attention to detail and ability to work within strict time constraints.Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a production team.Must work a Sunday through Thursday schedule; however, must be flexible to work varied schedules, including evenings and weekends.Proficiency in computer systems and basic editing techniques, with knowledge of Dalet preferred.Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form.Demonstrates adherence to C-SPAN corporate values, policies, and procedures.
