Job Description

Our Maintenance Manager oversees the maintenance operations of the plant, ensuring efficient and effective functioning of machinery, utilities, and overall facility maintenance. This role is responsible for managing preventive maintenance programs, monitoring inventory, supervising maintenance staff, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Operational Oversight : Report any potential issues that may impact plant operations to the General Manager immediately.
  • Warranty and Service Monitoring : Track warranties and service guarantees, notifying personnel of upcoming expiration dates.
  • Inventory Management : Conduct monthly inventory checks and verify with computerized records for parts and supplies.
  • Utility Management : Record utility meter readings and ensure accurate data entry into the system.
  • Cost Efficiency : Identify and establish relationships with manufacturers and aftermarket distributors to obtain competitive pricing and improved service.
  • Parts & Supplies Management : Order necessary parts and supplies and oversee the bar code scanning of parts inventory.
  • Team Leadership : Promote high morale within the department through fairness, consistency, and attention to employee concerns while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Preventive Maintenance : Implement and maintain a cost-effective preventive maintenance program.
  • Water Treatment : Monitor water treatment processes in the corrugator area.
  • Vendor Coordination : Oversee contract work and installations by external vendors in the absence of the Superintendent.
  • Meetings & Communication : Lead weekly Production / Safety meetings with department personnel to ensure alignment on goals and safety protocols.
  • Professional Development : Continuously improve technical and leadership skills by attending seminars, technical courses, and related educational programs.
  • On-Call Responsibility : Be available on a 24-hour basis for urgent plant maintenance needs.
  • Capital Projects : Assist in the evaluation, selection, and installation of capital and expense projects.
  • Policy & Procedure Compliance : Implement, support, and maintain company policies, including union contracts, safety programs, and housekeeping standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Directly manage all employees in the maintenance department, ensuring adherence to company policies and legal standards.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating strong leadership skills in planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising employee performance, providing coaching and feedback, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Education and Experience Requirements :

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Four years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Preferred Qualifications :
  • College coursework in a related technical field.
  • Five years of experience in the corrugated box industry, with expertise in electronics, mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electricity.
  • Skills and Abilities :

  • Language Skills : Able to read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance instructions. Capable of writing routine reports and communicating effectively in group settings.
  • Mathematical Skills : Proficient in basic math, including the ability to read tape measures and calculate measurements, percentages, and volumes.
  • Reasoning Ability : Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand and execute written, oral, or graphic instructions.
  • Technical Knowledge : Familiarity with equipment design and operational capabilities. Understanding of cost control, quality standards, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, DEQ, EEO).
  • Certifications & Licenses :

  • A current Lift Truck Operator License or other appropriate certifications may be required for specific roles or equipment.
  • Physical Demands :

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. Must frequently use hands to handle or feel, reach with arms, and stoop or kneel.
  • Ability to lift and / or move up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Must have excellent vision (close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception) and be able to adjust focus.
  • Work Environment :

  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet / humid conditions, high places, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
  • The noise level is typically loud, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
