Role Purpose
The Engineer – Power Plant is a career professional that provides engineering and technical support / assistance for operating, maintenance, and performance issues at regulated and unregulated plants in the Cleco fleet. This includes technical support, troubleshooting, development of technical specifications for repairs and component replacements, project development and management, budget development and management, contractor management and tracking, outage planning and support, and root cause failure analyses. The Plant Engineer III will manage routine matters without direction and may assist or work with plant staff. Has a comprehensive knowledge of power plant processes, operations, maintenance, and engineering. The Plant Engineer III is expected to be available to work additional hours, to work in alternate locations, and / or to perform additional duties in connection with storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as deemed necessary by the company.
Key Responsibilities

- Provide engineering and technical support and assistance for operating, maintenance, and performance issues.
- Manage non-Playbook Capital and O&M projects. This includes conceptual design, budget development, specifications, detailed engineering, equipment procurement, contractor and construction management, commission new equipment, staff training, & project closeout. Project work retrofits as well as new additions.
- Complete economic analysis and feasibility studies on existing and proposed plant equipment or modifications. Complete budget estimates to support O&M and Capital projects. Generate bid specifications to support projects and maintenance and perform an engineering evaluation on the bids.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes including Underwriters Laboratories (UL), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Board, Federal, State, and Local Codes.
- Provide engineering analyses, inspections, and support to operations and maintenance to keep equipment running at maximum reliability and performance levels while maintaining personnel safety, asset reliability, and environmental compliance.
- Monitor equipment performance. Identify and troubleshoot deviations from expected values that impact unit performance. Review and analyze predictive and preventive maintenance data as needed.
- Develop and implement recommendations to reduce operational and maintenance expenses.
- Provide long range planning for maintenance, repair, and capital improvement projects.
- Provide input for development of annual operations and maintenance budgets, accruals, and quarterly revisions based upon knowledge of inspections, reliability plans, and maintenance requirements.
- Complete and / or support Root Cause Analyses on equipment failures, loss of unit capacity, and other operating incidents.
- Participate in and / or lead teams that focus on specific problem areas or needs for generating units (i.e. Condition Assessments).
- Develop checklists, procedures and training programs for plant personnel for new and existing equipment.
- Support the execution of fleet wide asset management programs.
- Develop and maintain a good relationship and become accessible to plant management personnel. Support plant operations and maintenance as requested.
- Assist entry-level staff within Plant Engineering, using technical and administrative experience.
- Provide communication to their manager to provide status updates on project and other activities, and identify risks in delivery or resourcing needs.
- Manage assigned projects within defined scope and budget. Communicate changes to scope, schedule, and / or cost to all stakeholders in a timely manner.
