Job Summary :
The Mechanical Process / Utilities Engineer will provide engineering support across a range of conceptual industrial projects. The Mechanical Engineer will have demonstrated knowledge of both theoretical engineering calculations as well as real world application experience with both general process and typical utility systems (Chilled Water, Steam, Condensate, Compressed Air, Vacuum, Pure waters, etc.). The successful candidate will be expected to execute projects involving conceptual studies through full final design packages. The Mechanical Engineer may also be required to manage the technical interface with vendors regarding technology application and technical package evaluation and should also have some experience in the start-up commissioning activities of utility systems and facilities. The Mechanical Engineer will in most instances work embedded in a multidisciplinary project environment where communication with other discipline engineers is key to project success. Therefore, communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing is very important. The successful candidate would be expected to lead Mechanical Process efforts on major projects. The Mechanical Engineer would be expected to be a self-starter and complete design activities without much supervision. There would be plenty of challenging activities on the job and would be expected to show their creativity and ability to manage the challenges within the allotted time and budget constraints. In this role, you will
The successful candidate must be highly motivated, capable of working in a self-directed manner and must be familiar with the full engineering cycle including, but not limited to the following :Participates in the development of proposals and design packages for Mechanical Process and Utility systems, which includes establishing design basis, development of options, and optimization of selected design.Performs detailed design calculations and develops hydraulic design simulations.Participate in project kick-off meetings, PFD / P&ID reviews, and other client-facing meetings.Maintains effective communication with project team members, client contacts, and firm leadership.Participate in startup and commissioning activities.Communicate design recommendations to clients, project team, construction contractors and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessaryPerform other duties as assigned.Listen to clients’ needs and independently provide value to clients by evaluating options based upon the clients’ needs and desires, first cost, and life cycle costsProvide timely services that meet the needs of the clients and the overall project schedule requirementsComplete all required Salas O’Brien trainingWill be an ambassador of the firm to the publicWill always adhere to our core values and beliefsThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by people assigned to this classification. Minimum Bachelor of Science in mechanical, chemical engineering or related fieldsA minimum of 5 years of experience within the AEC industryA professional engineering license or the ability an interest to work towards a license.Experience with pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, preferred.Experience in one of the following industries preferred, Power Generation, Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, Pharma, Aluminum, Plastics, or Specialty Chemicals.Ability to undergo Short term domestic travelAbility to prepare technically correct, safe, and effective analysis and solutions.Works independently applying advanced techniques and analysis within the discipline.Skills / abilities :
Software Experience preferred : A working knowledge of AutoCAD PipeFlow Professional Caesar II, AutoPIPE Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPointGood working knowledge of general utility systems (chillers, cooling towers, boilers, water treatment, compressors, filtration, etc.) with the ability to develop and specify a new system.Experience selecting and specifying general instrumentationExperience performing hydraulic evaluationShould have had experience in estimating and creating execution plans for Process & Utility work scopes.Proficient in field investigations and measurementsWorking knowledge of Industry Standards such as API, ASME, ASTM, PIPInterprets and ensures conformance to applicable standards and codes, as well as company policies and proceduresWorks closely with process piping designers and other related disciplines to ensure coordinated design systemsExcellent listening, written and verbal communication skills, and is sensitive to the need to change their personal behavior quickly when needed to effectively communicate and coordinate with othersGood attention to detail and the ability to recognize discrepanciesStrong problem-solving skillsAbility and willingness to abide by Salas O’Brien’s Code of ConductFunctions effectively as part of a teamUnderstand, comply with and support Salas O’Brien’s safety initiativesDesire to learn and grow, self-motivated for successAble to delegate and be delegated toAbility to multi-taskDependabilityGood time management and organizational skillsLocation : Evansville, IN and in the field Travel : Work will involve travel to clients' facilities; 10- 15% of the time.
