  • Responsible for representing Operations in the company-wide collaborative effort to build American's global schedule including Mainline and Regional flights.
  • This job is for the Operations Schedule and Block Product Management and Analytics team within the Operations Planning and Performance Division. The team manages the development of technology tools which enhance integrated schedule design and provides reporting and analytical support to product owners and Operations Planning teams. This job within the team will be focused on building intelligence around block performance, block methodology enhancements, and future schedule feasibility.

  • Support Product Owners and Operations Research in the development and analysis of new and existing schedule and block tools, application features and performance
  • Mine, model, analyze, and evaluate operational data to identify root cause factors impacting network reliability
  • Perform advanced business analysis using SQL and Python / R to develop prescriptive operational improvement plans
  • Provide periodic reports to the operating departments focusing on trends and anomalies
  • Create and maintain dashboards and reporting of key metrics on future schedules for various operational stakeholders
  • Automate and improve current programs, processes, reports and forecasts using SQL and / or Python / R
  • Analyze and develop requirements and provide documentation for IT projects
  • Define data infrastructure, pipelines and strategy together with IT and Ops Research to support schedule and block tools
  • Respond to ad hoc data / analysis requests around future and past schedules and block forecast and performance from various departments
  • Develop presentations and present findings with recommendations to key stakeholders and senior management
  • Work collaboratively with various teams across the schedule and block domain (Network Planning, Crew Planning, IOC, TechOps, etc.) to develop innovative and insightful solutions to improve performance

    Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in using data analysis to answer business questions and to assess the added value of recommendations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Experience with data retrieval languages (e.g. SQL, SparkSQL, MySQL, NoSQL)
  • Experience with 1 or more programming languages (e.g. R and Python)
  • Experience with Cloud Computing and / or Distributed Computing (e.g. Databricks, Spark, AWS)
  • Experience with reporting and data visualization tools and techniques (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • MBA or MS in Operations Research, Data Analytics, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics or related field
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure (storage accounts, service principal, Azure Data Factory and active directory)
  • Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • High energy, results driven leader who possesses strong oral and written communication skills, along with a collaborative mindset and the ability to be persuasive and influence others
  • Skilled in data analysis / modeling in Excel / R / Python to answer business questions and assess operational impacts
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with an aptitude for problem solving
  • Strong business acumen; technical learning / innovation management
  • Ability to perform both independently and as a team member, handle multiple assignments, complete projects on time, and respond to changing priorities
  • Ability to complete assigned projects accurately and within defined deadlines
  • Adaptable, comfortable with unstructured work and occasional shifting priorities
  • Knowledge of data processing / manipulation languages such SQL, R, Python in large database environments
