POSITION OVERVIEW :
As our HR Generalist, you will be successful if you have a passion for sustaining and growing our amazing culture, an eye for continuous improvement, and an appetite to understand and ensure compliance with California employment law, federal law, and our collective bargaining agreements. You will provide a comprehensive range of HR services by partnering with company leaders and the HR team to drive an inclusive workplace where associates truly feel like they are part of an extended family. In this role, you'll hold the important task of balancing the support of our employees with the protection of the company, always operating with the greatest level of discretion and confidentiality.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

Generalists typically start with a focus based on their experience and evolve from there based on skills and additional training.
Day to Day Management
- Respond to HR inquiries such as employment verification, DMV pull verifications.
- Investigate employee relation concerns as an objective party, documenting findings, offering counsel and advice to involved parties.
- Provide HR guidance and resources to employees as requested.
- Serve as back-up for other HR Team members when needed.
- Support other HR duties as requested.
HR Initiative Support
Establish programs, policies and practices that develop and maintain a positive work environment for all employees.Implement improved work methods and procedures to ensure that consistent retention, hiring practices, orientation, and termination procedures are handled in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.Manage other projects as assigned.HR Compliance Support
Develop and implement HR initiatives that support the compliance aspects of our business and align with the overall business strategy.Ensure our Employee Handbook is kept up to date and reflects current laws and regulations.Create, assign, deliver and manage compliance training for all employees.Provide advice and counsel to business leaders to ensure decisions are consistent with company policies, laws, and regulations.Ensure all necessary document postings, filings and other legally required distribution / reporting is completed per legal requirements, including topics such as OSHA, California Fair Pay, EEO-1 report, etc.Provide HR guidance and resources to employees regarding company policies, laws, and regulations.Work closely with the Safety team to support our Safety programs and OSHA reporting.Manage the workers compensation, leave management process, and overall attendance trends ensuring supportive communication as well as appropriate assessments, certifications and work modifications are documented and implemented as agreed.Manage the performance review assignment and completion process.Provide coaching and oversight over the performance review and journaling process, ensuring documentation is fair, respectful, and supportive of our values.Benefits Support
Act as the backup for all aspects of the benefits process as well as the company 401k, working with our administrators, keeping our HRIS system up to date, managing communications, open enrollment, and training.HRIS / Record Retention and Reporting
Maintain accurate personnel records within the Paylocity system and the physical files, ensuring document retention rules are followed.Ensure all necessary document postings, filings, and other legally required distribution / reporting are completed per legal requirements, including topics such as OSHA, California Fair Pay, EEO-1 report, etc.Analyze and report data from exit interviews, employee surveys, and other methods, to assess turnover, discipline, absences, and other metrics to improve compliance.Talent Sourcing and Acquisition
Work with managers to complete the talent request process.Identify the best sourcing options for each opening.Manage the job posting process within Paylocity (our HRIS) and our social media sites.Reach out to key organizations to target additional job boards and publications.Use tools such as Indeed, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok & LinkedIn to proactively target potential candidates.Find and facilitate all aspects of our attendance and participation in recruiting events (may arrange for employees to attend with you, equipment for display, brochures, giveaways, etc.)Recruiting Support
Screen applications and respond to candidates within 48 hours of their application and / or ensure hiring managers do the same.Collaborate with hiring managers and their identified interview panel members to schedule timely interviews to keep the candidate moving through the process in a timely manner.Prepare interviewers with appropriate questions and other tips for successful interviewing, assign rating sheets and facilitate debrief sessions (this may include creating, updating and facilitating interview preparation training).Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and company policies.Provide feedback to every candidate, keeping them posted on where they stand.Collaborate with hiring managers to agree on wage rate to offer based on experience and expertise level.Issue and confirm job offer.On Boarding Support
Manage the post-offer onboarding practices and company orientation, ensuring a smooth transition from recruiting through handoff to their manager.Provide support to hiring managers to ensure they have a solid new-hire onboarding job training plan and are prepared to receive and welcome their new hire.Maintain onboarding workflows to ensure correct training is assigned.Maintain all vendor relationships and records for third parties that support the employment process (Background checks, drug screening, driver records, DOT qualifications, etc.)Workers' compensation Support
Processing claims in the Workers' Compensation portal.Setting up authorization for Injured workers' clinics visits.Providing employees and supervisors with information and assistance regarding workers' compensation.Maintaining personal contact with an injured employee who is away from the workplace.Coordinating with timekeeper to ensure that proper codes are entered on timesheets in order to track any Continuation of Pay and light duty hours.Employee Engagement and Retention
Launch employee surveys.Track, analyze and report employee survey outcomes.Collaborate across the business to identify actions that address the outcomes, developing and maintaining a positive work environment for all employees.Organize and support company-sponsored employee events to help foster friendships and lift our internal and external communities.Training Development and Delivery
Assess learning gaps at the organization and person level.Create and / or find new training content and programs (On-line, Lunch and Learn, Cohorts, etc.)Reform and improve existing training content and programs.Assess training effectiveness to ensure transfer of knowledge.Create and manage production of guides, videos, and other training content.Update and maintain training content within Paylocity (our HRIS / LMS).Track employee completion of training and ensure skills are being updated within Paylocity.Facilitate and teach training programs.Facilitate train-the-trainer sessions to teach others to train.HR Leadership and Management
Serve as a thought leader and continuous improvement advisor across all aspects of people management and strategies.Participate in developing department goals and priorities.Plan, organize, and control all activities for assigned responsibility areas.Participate in webinars to stay up to date on HR practices, policies, and employment laws.Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS :
Required
Four-year degree or relevant certification in business or human resources.5+ years of progressive experience in HR, including recruiting, onboarding, employee engagement and training.Experience interpreting and complying with California and federal employment laws.Experience working with Paylocity (or similar HRIS)Exceptional people skills demonstrating a helpful attitude with everyone.Professional, kind, and positive phone manner.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Ability to multi-task and communicate effectively when under pressure.Detail oriented with strong organizational and administrative skills.Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office : Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPointDemonstrated ability to act in a way that is consistent with our values.The ability to work at a branch office daily, if qualified for hybrid work-from-home status, then the ability to work independently at a home office that has high speed internet, with minimal to no distractions during work hours (7 : 30-4 : 30).Qualified DMV record, background check and drug screening.Desired
