Job description
  • Acts as the senior occupational safety resource for a school or unit and oversees the implementation of EH&S compliance management plans and protocols.
  • Development of customer relationships and deeper understanding of the EH&S gaps and needs for their assigned school(s) or department(s) Responsible for the success of customer relationships.
  • Acts as functional leader to other safety staff and is the primary technical resource.
  • Expected to make decisions commensurate with a senior technical resource as well as mentorship and guidance to other safety staff as needed.
  • Responsible for development, implementation and maintenance of EHS Safety / Compliance Plan for Energy & Facilities.
  • Responds to and investigates accidents and near miss incidents, leads after action review with supervisors, directors and affected personnel to identify root causes. Tracks, monitors and drives adjustments in procedures, job responsibilities or trainings to prevent re-occurrence. Assists management with implementation of accident investigation / prevention and occupational health-related programs. Analyzes accident / injury trends to mitigate potential future problems – provides recommendations for corrective action.
  • Conducts regular and as-needed assessments of EHS safety and compliance risks identifying performance gaps and corrective actions. Conducts and / or coordinates periodic environmental health and safety inspections, provides summary reports to management. Leads the communication and / or coordination of the corrective actions necessary.
  • Develops, maintains and delivers EH&S training programs, as needed. Assist in startup and use of the EH&S Training Management system. Participates in the EH&S part of the on-boarding process to ensure employees are initially trained.
  • Maintain list or report critical EHS attributes, metrics and measurements. Provides EH&S Service Update reports to senior management on the most significant ongoing EHS risks coupled with recommendations and action plans to mitigate or eliminate these risks. Leads the corrective action process and drives issues to resolution.
  • Develops and maintains compliance calendar to identify required action times and task necessary to maintain compliance. Maintains a list of applicable regulations or standards applicable to operations including a description of local and EHS roles and responsibilities for each program. Establishes system to track and changing regulations impacting operations and a means to regularly update senior management.
  • Develops and submits a comprehensive annual EHS report to senior management. Develops, coordinates and critiques emergency drills for business units.
  • Establishes, chairs or facilitates Safety Committee meetings. Tracks and reports status of meeting agenda items or issues, recommends corrective action strategy, as required.
  • Participates in EHS Department emergency management program activities, providing training, procedures development and other services. Ensures accuracy of EH&S protocols and related information in the computer aided dispatch system.
  • Participates on a variety of EH&S project and program teams, as required.
