Business Development Engineer

Greater Richmond Area

Job Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Drive the company’s strategic business development efforts.
  • Identify and vet potential contracts, teaming opportunities, new markets, and partnerships.
  • Be an advocate for SUE industry. Support and uphold standards of industry.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders, including but not limited to local, state, and federal governments, as well as engineering clients.
  • Cultivate opportunities (when able) prior to publishing of RFPs, RFIs, or bids.
  • Responsible for project detection and maintaining RFP databases.
  • Business Marketing / Development Actions :
  • Attend conferences; participate in professional organizations.
  • Contribute to proposal development and submission.
  • Identify and coordinate resources or prequalification needs for proposals.
  • Give presentations to clients, potential clients or at professional events.
  • Perform competitor and SWOT analysis. Collect / document intelligence about customers, procurements, competition, and pricing.
  • Attend prequalification meetings and debriefings, review scoring.
  • Identify BD risks and develop avoidance or mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in contract administration and / or legal procurement issues.
  • Participate in the brainstorming of solid and effective technical, operational, management, personnel, business and pricing strategies, approaches, and / or solutions.

Job Requirements :

  • Familiarity with government contracting (federal, state, and local) 3. Basic proficiency in the CI / ASCE 38-22 Standard / willingness to learn.
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PDF editor
  • Must have good communication skills (verbal and written), strong administrative and organizational skills, as well as a high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Skills & Experience : Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering licensure (willing / ability to attain)
  • 5 - 8 years’ experience in business development or executive sales, preferably in SUE, civil engineering, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Must pass a security clearance / background check
