  • Position purpose

    The Mohs Tech performs all routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by the Mohs surgeons.

    Role and Responsibilities

  • Performs Mohs histology including : specimen grossing, chuck preparation, microtomy, staining, coverslipping
  • Maintains quality and viability of all specimens, including verification of chucks and slides to case numbers to ensures correct patient labeling
  • Correctly prepares solutions for staining
  • Adheres to quality control policies
  • Performs routine maintenance, and troubleshoots equipment issues
  • Follows appropriate laboratory safety protocols
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate’s degree or higher in a chemical, physical or biological science OR a minimum 24 hours (with 6-chemistry, 6-biology and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, medical technology in any combination) OR HT / HTL (ASCP) certified, or eligible OR Certification of Mohs Training by a Nationally recognized facilitator.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a team and service oriented environment. Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in interactions with physicians, providers and lab personnel.
  • Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipment
  • Computer literate
  • Strong analytical judgement
  • Accuracy and close attention to details
  • Familiarity with automated laboratory equipment and terminology
  • Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Mohs technique
  • Must be ok with traveling to Arlington Heights, Oak Park, Libertyville, Skokie, and Naperville
  • Work schedule : Monday -Friday 7 : 00am - 3 : 30pm
