The Mohs Tech performs all routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by the Mohs surgeons.
Role and Responsibilities
Performs Mohs histology including : specimen grossing, chuck preparation, microtomy, staining, coverslippingMaintains quality and viability of all specimens, including verification of chucks and slides to case numbers to ensures correct patient labelingCorrectly prepares solutions for stainingAdheres to quality control policiesPerforms routine maintenance, and troubleshoots equipment issuesFollows appropriate laboratory safety protocolsAdditional responsibilities as assignedQualifications and Education Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent requiredAssociate’s degree or higher in a chemical, physical or biological science OR a minimum 24 hours (with 6-chemistry, 6-biology and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, medical technology in any combination) OR HT / HTL (ASCP) certified, or eligible OR Certification of Mohs Training by a Nationally recognized facilitator.Ability to multi-taskAbility to work in a team and service oriented environment. Must be able to maintain a professional demeanor in interactions with physicians, providers and lab personnel.Manual dexterity to use common laboratory equipmentComputer literateStrong analytical judgementAccuracy and close attention to detailsFamiliarity with automated laboratory equipment and terminologyPreferred Skills
Experience with Mohs techniqueMust be ok with traveling to Arlington Heights, Oak Park, Libertyville, Skokie, and NapervilleWork schedule : Monday -Friday 7 : 00am - 3 : 30pm
