Senior Systems Engineer

The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, testing and support of new system applications and tools as well as upgrades of existing applications and / or code deployments of currently utilized applications. Applications supported consist of a range of products and technologies in the Microsoft space, including Windows services such as file storage, IIS, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, process automation, as well as management of systems applications and IT tools to include core Microsoft services such as Active Directory, group policy management, MECM administration, Microsoft 365 / Azure management, etc. In conjunction with the Senior Network Engineer, provide technology expertise for infrastructure environment, which is inclusive of capacity planning, infrastructure buildout, availability monitoring, performance, and security management. Perform systems maintenance tasks, such as back-ups, recovery, and file maintenance. In addition, the Senior Systems Engineer will work closely with internal customers, IT team members and / or external vendors gathering requirements then designing and deploying middleware, database, and security components to support those requirements. This position will report to the IT Infrastructure Manager.
Additional Responsibilities
- Work directly with other IT team members, users, and vendors in the development, implementation, and deployment of systems integration projects.
- Provide installation, configuration and support, for Windows Server and Workstation, MECM, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft 365 and other various Microsoft technologies.
- Provide installation and support of various technologies and services hosted on Windows Server platforms.
- Provide in-depth expertise related to Microsoft technologies, web platforms and related security, directory services and other components as required.
- Troubleshoot service-related issues and perform root cause analysis and provide problem identification, diagnosis and resolution.
- Support various Windows based applications used in the Amalgamated Sugar environment.
- Manage system resources by monitoring of performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recovery.
- Harden server configurations and enforce security best practices.
- Develop and maintain data updates / loads / integration code and tools as required.
- Design and deliver enterprise software methodology across multiple teams.
- Configuration and support of core Microsoft services such as Active Directory, group policy, MECM, Microsoft 365, etc.
- Design, code, test, document and implement new or modified integrations, tools, or processes.
- Perform scanning and other means of validation to identify potential threats as well as confirming proper configuration has been met.
- Apply patches, updates, and security fixes promptly when required.
- Manage and maintain reliable backup strategies including offsite backups and disaster recovery plans including testing backup and restoration procedures regularly.
- Create, manage, and monitor maintenance plans and procedures that take into consideration operating environment limitations (e.g. space, available resources, etc.).
- Use PowerShell, batch, or other scripting languages to automate routine tasks.

Foster an environment that encourages teamwork, empowerment, and collaboration, both internally and externally.Lead by example, maintains an even temperament under pressure.High integrity and honesty, promote ethical behavior and trust in all actions.Creative and change-oriented, is an assertive, energetic initiative-taker.Above average written, oral and facilitation skills, ability to articulate detailed information in a clear and concise manner.Excellent listener with empathy to peer, customer, or employee concerns and aptitude for necessary follow-up actions.Convey information in understandable terms at all levels of the organization.4-year degree in Computer Science / Information Systems / Information Technology (or satisfactory combination of education and experience).7+ years of experience in administration, support, tuning and tools (including complex SQL Queries) for various Microsoft platforms / technologies and virtualization technologies.5+ years of experience in supporting deployment and troubleshooting of web servers, windows services and hosted applications in a production environment.Microsoft certifications preferred.Proven experience as a Systems Engineer or similar role.Experience in multi-site system environments.Strong knowledge and extensive experience with Windows Server (2012, 2016, 2019, 2022) and Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, etc.) deployed in a Virtual Environment (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, etc.).Experience configuring / supporting / tuning Microsoft technologies such as Windows Server and Workstation, SQL Server, Active Directory, MECM, Intune, and Microsoft 365.Experience with supporting 99.9% SLA production services.Advanced skillset with scripting and automating processes / procedures in PowerShell, VBA, and batch scripting.Experience or familiarity with .NET programing (C#).Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting server and storage systems.Practical experience using version control software like GIT and Azure DevOps Server.Strong understanding of Operating systems including Windows and Unix / Linux along with the aptitude and willingness to learn / support other operating systems used in the environment.Solid experience creating SQL queries and understanding of database server management and support.Ability to create database design recommendations based on business rules and use case documents.Experience with backup and recovery technologies, Veeam experience preferred.Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.Amalgamated Sugar Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer
