SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION : Orthopedic technicians work directly with orthopedic doctors and surgeons in the treatment of bone and joint injuries.
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
To assist with applying and removing of casts, splints and bracing products for orthopedic patients; and to be a resource to the Inpatient, Emergency and Surgical
Department
s of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents. To provide quality orthopedic patient / family experiences through collaboration with staff of Ambulatory Services, Orthopedic Division & other hospital departments to improve patient flow and staff efficiency.
Teach and supervise Pediatric and Orthopedic house staff in the safe and reliable application of orthopedic appliances through direct patient care, and introductory training courses. Offer excellent care to orthopedic patients during emergency room visits, during specified times. Be aware of sterile precautions during and after orthopedic surgical cases. Be available if time permits to assist Orthopedic staff with in-house patients.
Display the ability to maintain casting area, check stock and coordinate discrepancies with the central supply / pyxsis staff. Consistently and accurately capture charges of inventory dispersed through the pyxsis system. Assist with cleaning of patient stations after use, and be aware of potential safety hazards. Remain current in and consistently practice CCHMC blood and body fluid precautions. Performs scheduled, routine safety checks on identified equipment and logs action. Notifies supervisor in a timely manner when issues are identified that require their attention.
Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, such as JCAHO, HIPAA, and / or other accreditation standards.
Utilize constructive approaches to problem solving and conflict resolution. Participate in identifying improvements in response to customer needs. Facilitates involvement of patients / families (shared care) in decisions and goal setting for care outcomes.
