Description :
A CMM Inspector (Coordinate Measuring Machine Inspector) is a professional who operates and maintains coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) in manufacturing or quality control settings. CMMs are advanced tools used to measure the physical geometrical characteristics of an object. A CMM inspector is responsible for inspecting and ensuring the precision and accuracy of parts or products according to engineering drawings, specifications, or design standards.
Requirements :
Key responsibilities of a CMM Inspector include :
- Operating CMM Equipment : Setting up and operating the coordinate measuring machines to measure parts and components accurately. This can include both manual and automated CMM systems.
- Inspection and Measurement : Inspecting parts to ensure they meet required specifications, measuring attributes like dimensions, angles, surface roughness, and positioning of holes or features.
- Data Analysis : Reviewing measurement data to identify any discrepancies or defects. The inspector uses this data to determine whether the part or component is within the allowable tolerances.
- Reporting and Documentation : Recording inspection results, documenting any deviations, and providing reports to engineers or managers. If defects or out-of-tolerance measurements are detected, the CMM inspector communicates these findings to the relevant team for corrective action.
- Maintenance of Equipment : Ensuring that the CMM is properly calibrated and maintained for optimal performance. This includes regular checks, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Quality Control and Assurance : Working to maintain high standards of quality assurance, ensuring that products meet industry standards and customer requirements.
Skills Required :
Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)Proficiency in CMM software, such as Mitutoyo PC-DMISAttention to detail and precisionProblem-solving and analytical skillsGood communication skills for reporting and team coordinationKnowledge of various types of measuring equipment and toolsPhysical Requirements
