Buffalo Prep was founded in 1989 by education and community leaders to help talented underrepresented students prepare for, obtain entrance into, and excel at demanding college preparatory high schools. Buffalo Prep has grown exponentially over the years and now serves hundreds of students and alumni each year with our unique pipeline of Prep Scholars Academy, Middle School Prep, High School Prep, College Prep, and Alumni Prep programs. Many students begin Buffalo Prep’s rigorous program in 5th grade and commit their summers, evenings, and weekends to prepare for higher achievement.

Position Summary

To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Essential Functions

  • Prompt familiarity and compliance with the Buffalo Prep Teacher’s Manual, including academic and disciplinary policies, as well as pedagogical practices.
  • Commitment to social justice and social justice education.
  • Ability to actualize and contribute to a Culturally Relevant-Sustaining curriculum through Culturally Relevant-Sustaining pedagogical practices.
  • Willingness to establish office hours at Buffalo Prep to allow for connecting with and mentoring of students outside of the classroom setting.
  • Willingness to work approximately five weeks during the summer.
  • Must become acclimated and committed to the Buffalo Prep mission, culture, and student population.
  • Maintain program records in a timely manner.
  • Work with other staff members to provide student data in accordance with stated timeframes.
  • Adheres to all policies including Buffalo Prep’s Stop Light Policy and mandated reporting as outlined by NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
  • Attend ongoing professional development that enhances learning for your role, department, organizational mission and initiatives, and culture.

  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or Math.
  • Skill in Math and familiarity with NYS standards for Math.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient in Spanish.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess the ability to work with a number of constituencies including underrepresented students and their families, high school personnel, Buffalo Prep staff, Board of Directors, and others.
  • Experience with Culturally Responsive curriculum and pedagogy.
  • A strong team player is a must.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.

  • Requirements

    Teachers are compensated 25 dollars an hour for class time as well as grading and lesson planning. Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to Marcus Deveso, Chief Program Officer, by March 1, 2025.
