UW Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Director.

The Director within the UW Medicine Business Operations and Management Group serves as a flexible and integral resource who will be available to the Executive Management of the School of Medicine (SoM) and the Dean’s office in several capacities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting various SoM Departments and the Dean's office with special projects, internal consulting, troubleshooting, overseeing interim management level administrators, taking on interim management level administrator roles, interim administrative reports, operational assessments, revenue enhancement, expense reduction reviews and other administrative functions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Internal Consultant / Project Manager and Continuous Process Improvement (40%)

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Administration and Operations in the School of Medicine, the Director serves as an internal management consultant / project manager to the School's Executive Management. The position will :

  • Work with the School's management and appropriate Department(s) to identify and define key issues, opportunities for improvement, and will lead projects to address concerns.
  • Conduct / coordinate administrative, operational, and financial analyses to assess performance or support special projects.
  • Participate in Departmental reviews.
  • Develop and negotiate recommendations which provide necessary guidance and resolution to identified problems.
  • Lead Process Improvement projects throughout the School.
  • Implement Continuous Process Improvement / Lean tools for the School in needed areas.
  • Identify and recruit future Vice Chairs / Administrators / Directors.
  • Onboard and coach Vice Chairs / Administrators / Directors.

Interim Vice Chair / Director / Administrator (40%)

The Director provides the supervisory role of interim administrator to support to SOM Departments as needed, directing Department activities during transitional times when vacancies occur.

  • Will serve as lead in projects and in Departments during key role vacancies.
  • Responsible for identifying and implementing changes in operations in preparation for new management.
  • Key resource advisor to the Associate Dean of Administration and Operations and to Department Chair.
  • Clinical Services (20%)

    Responsible for tracking, analyzing, and reporting on various clinical related activities based on needs.

    Other related duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Master's Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related field plus a minimum of five years' management level administrative experience.

    Equivalent education / experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license / certification / registration.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong Project management experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience managing professional, technical, and union-represented personnel.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to oversee planning and implementation of complex projects.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in Lean, Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to do detailed work and financial planning.
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Management level experience in an academic or research institution environment.
  • Lean / CPI Certification.
