City of Arlington, TXTX, United StatesTreatment Tech TraineeLocationWater UtilitiesWork StatusFull TimeTHIS POSITION IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED.SALARY : 16.54 - 20.67 Hourly USDJOB SUMMARY : Under supervision, assists in the monitoring and operation of the city's water treatment processes and distribution system to ensure compliance with regulations and operational goals.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : 1. Learn about and apply water treatment processes and technologies, distribution system practices, equipment, safety, laboratory procedures, regulatory requirements, and general Water Treatment procedures.2. Participate in monitoring treatment processes and distribution system to ensure compliance with regulations and operational goals, through the use of plant computer systems, observation, analysis and troubleshooting of equipment and processes, and laboratory analyses.3. Learn and assist in the operation and coordination of treatment and distribution system utilizing plant computer systems, manual control systems and equipment.4. Learn and participate in the maintenance of instrument and information systems by inspecting, calibrating, and repairing instrumentation, updating and enhancing databases, and developing and generating reports.5. Learn to perform work in a safe manner using all required safety equipment and following all required department safety procedures and policies.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS : 6. Perform maintenance of equipment and facilities including the ability to communicate the status of equipment and processes to others.7. Purchase and receive chemical shipments and other supplies.8. Assist in responses to customer requests and conduct special projects and studies formanagement as requested.9. Serve on the Water Treatment Safety Committee.10. Use the computerized maintenance management system.11. Follow water system security procedures.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic chemistry and biology.
- Knowledge of advanced math.
- Skill in basic word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in an indoor / outdoor environment.
- Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to PC, fax machine, radio, laboratory equipment, hand tools, plant process equipment, power tools, instrumentation, calculator and copier.
- Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to carrying, climbing, dragging, driving, filing, holding, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing seeing, sitting, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, typing, walking and writing.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
- Ability to organize tasks.
- Incumbent is subject to fume / odors, dust / mites, chemical, mechanical, and electrical hazards.QUALIFYING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Two years (60 hours) of general college courses including math, science, computer science, or engineering. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for above.
