Job Description
Job Description
The SEIU Communications Center (SEIU-CC, LLC) advocates for quality health care and public services in our communities, and good jobs for all. We seek candidates who are passionate about progressive politics, labor issues, and social justice movements, and who want to make a difference.
SEIU-CC operates at the leading edge of innovation in the labor movement, helping our union clients to meet the challenges of organizing workers in the 21st century. We help labor unions across the country grow their membership and increase member participation. The American labor movement is under constant attack from those who would undermine workers’ rights, and we are at the forefront of this fight, ensuring that working families have access to good-paying jobs, quality health care, and respect and dignity in the workplace. We are excited to open the search for new Tele-Organizers who believe that all workers deserve respect and a voice in the workplace and who are eager to join the fight to grow the labor movement across the United States.
The primary responsibility of the Tele-Organizer is to efficiently conduct organizing conversations over the phone, and with a level of professionalism and aptitude that exceeds client expectations.
On the job, SEIU-CC Tele-organizers (TO’s) can expect to place outbound phone calls or receive incoming phone calls. The work primarily consists of speaking to labor union members and other working people, while using a provided script, in conjunction with background materials and accumulated knowledge and skills, to provide information, gather information, and / or make an appeal for some action.
As of April 2022, work is performed at our New York City headquarters, using company-provided equipment, or from a remote location, using employee-provided equipment that meets standards.
This is a part-time, per diem position. Shifts typically run during the afternoon and evening; for example, from 3pm or 5pm until 9pm or 11pm Eastern Time / Noon or 2pm until 6pm or 8pm Pacific Time. A common weekly shift schedule is Monday - Thursday and Sunday, with Friday and Saturday off.
The pay is $22.68 per hour.
Qualifications :
- Must have suitable voice, be articulate, enthusiastic, and represent well on the telephone
- Must be comfortable talking to strangers, asking them to join or take some action
- Background in organizing is ideal, priority given for experience in union organizing
- Prior experience in outbound fundraising, sales, polling, or other persuasive work (especially on telephone or door canvass) is preferred over inbound customer service background
