Job description

Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Warehouse Manager I (WMI), the Heavy Truck Driver (HTD) is responsible for pickup and delivery of goods and commodities, on and off institutional grounds, utilizing a variety of different trucks to perform related laboring work. Collect recyclable materials generated by the institution. Supervise an inmate crew and operate / drive a heavy motor truck assigned to the Warehouse. Incumbent will also be responsible for enforcement of institutional rules and regulations and prevention of introduction of contraband onto institutional grounds. Incumbent is required to possess a valid California Commercial Class ‘A’ driver’s license with no restrictions.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position(s).

This position works 'behind the walls' at Folsom State Prison.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and / or restrictions.
  • The position(s) require(s) a(n) Commercial Class A License License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.

Confidential information that should be excluded or removed from these documents includes, but is not limited to, your Social Security Number (SSN), birthdate, student identification number, driver’s license number (unless required), basis of eligibility, examination results, LEAP status, marital status, and age.     Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and / or appointment. If you are meeting Minimum Qualifications with education, you must include your unofficial transcripts / diploma for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. If it is determined an applicant does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

    Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing / evaluation thereafter.
