GENERAL DUTIES

  • Performs patient assessments and technical skills to assess the ophthalmic status of each patient, including emergency procedures and medication administration as appropriate.
  • Performs diagnostics, takes history, tests vision, performs specialized ophthalmic testing, dispenses contact lenses and assists physicians.
  • Educates patients and documents patient interactions.
  • Collects patient medical history, eye measurements and determines intraocular pressure.
  • Supports ophthalmologists in the treatment of eye diseases and disorders.
  • Prepares and maintains examination equipment and rooms.
  • Contributes to the team as necessary to ensure quality patient care.
  • Manages medication supply, ordering and inventory.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required : High School Diploma / GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience in Optometry / Ophthalmology.
  • Preferred : Accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program Successful completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant Program.
