DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE :

Foothill College is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and collegial full-time Theatre Arts instructor (Theatre Arts Generalist) with broad knowledge of acting and performance and a strong commitment to the mission of California's community colleges. The successful candidate will direct department productions and teach a diverse range of courses, which could include all levels of acting, directing, theatre literature, script analysis, multicultural theatre, movement, improvisation, and stage combat, in on-campus, online, and hybrid formats. This position will include evening and weekend classes. The successful candidate will also assist with student recruitment, develop relationships with Bay Area Theatre companies, produce and promote quarterly department productions, oversee degree and certificate pathways, and support program growth, while collaborating with faculty across disciplines and fostering industry partnerships to enhance student opportunities.

Standard duties expected of all full-time faculty include development, assessment, and revision of curricula and textbooks; program review; Student Learning Outcomes assessment; maintaining scheduled office hours; attending department / division meetings; pursuing professional growth activities; service on district and / or college committees; working with other departments and community partners to improve student success; and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. We seek faculty members who are themselves the life-long learners and independent thinkers we wish our students to become. We are looking for educators who are creative and responsible in their use of time and resources, who possess a clear vision for creating a democratic learning environment, and who can translate that vision into practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • A Master's or Master of Fine Arts in drama / theater arts / performance OR Bachelor's or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama / theater arts / performance AND Master's in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities OR the equivalent.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Experience with / knowledge of theatre from conceptual, historical, and production perspectives.
  • Experience in directing fully staged theatrical productions at the secondary, post-secondary, community, semi-professional, and / or professional level.
  • At least two years of teaching experience in acting and / or performance at a secondary, post-secondary, and / or community college.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and use culturally responsive, student-centered instructional (pedagogical / andragogical) approaches and materials that produce, present, and cultivate the artistic expression of women, people of color, youth, LGBTQIA, and other underrepresented voices.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and use multiple teaching methods (e.g., multimedia demonstrations, lecture / lab, individualized instruction, and technology-supported instruction) that address the needs of a diverse, multicultural student population.
  • Knowledge of and / or experience with online pedagogy and instructional technology / learning management systems in asynchronous and / or synchronous online / hybrid settings.
  • Commitment to on-campus presence, for example : supporting the success of underrepresented, disproportionately impacted students through mentoring, community work, club advising, and / or support of learning communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially with colleagues across disciplines, to design, revise, and implement new and existing curriculum and to advance the development of the Theatre Arts program.
  • Knowledge of the California community college system and the populations it serves.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
