Responsibilities You will perform grounds maintenance work, such as mowing, weeding, brush clearing, watering, pruning, and trimming according to instructions. You will use / maintain a variety of hand and power operated garden tools and equipment such as seeders, spreaders, edgers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, sprayers, spades, hoes, rakes, mowers, chippers and arm cutters. You will drive one or more types of light trucks that typically have a gross vehicle weight of up to 10,000 pounds, such as pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, and sedans to transport materials and equipment. You will recognize developing hazardous road and traffic conditions and selects alternate routes to avoid potential problems. You will utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. The Screen-out Element for this position is : The Ability to Perform the Work Under Normal Supervision. Operating equipment in a safe manner, applying established safety rules and regulations AND performing tractor operating tasks such as starting, stopping, and maneuvering the tractor and industrial equipment according to directions. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C). PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Incumbent must be physically able to routinely handle / lift objects averaging up to 40lbs. Occasionally lift heavier objects. The work requires reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. WORKING CONDITIONS : Incumbent is subject to discomfort from long periods in the hot sun and sometimes chilly or rainy weather.
