Position Information
The City of Pittsburg is seeking Seasonal Recreation Leaders to ensure the safety of swimmers and visitors at our aquatic facilities at Buchanan Swim Center. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop leadership skills, gain valuable work experience, and spend your summer by the pool. Successful candidates will possess the following :
- Safety Awareness : Demonstrates a commitment to ensuring the well-being of all patrons and enforce facility rules and regulations.
- Vigilance : Maintains focus and readiness to respond in high-pressure situations, providing first aid or lifesaving techniques as needed.
- Teamwork : Collaborates effectively with staff and supervisors to provide a seamless experience.
- Customer Service : Creates a welcoming and positive environment for all visitors.
- Responsibility : Takes initiative and completes assigned tasks reliably; dependable and able to maintain punctual attendance
- Prior experience as a lifeguard or swim instructor is desired.
- Familiarity with pool safety protocols and water rescue techniques is desired.
- Current certification in Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, and AED (or willingness to obtain prior to start date).
- Strong swimming skills and physical fitness.

The Recreation Department provides programs and services that enhance the quality of life for the Pittsburg community through the following :
The Marina Community Center located in downtown Pittsburg provides a hub for Recreation staff and community partners and offers indoor programs and activities for youth, families, and all residents.

The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. We have about 290 full time employees and about 350 employees total (depending on the season). Selection Process
1. Application process : Applicants must complete an online employment application which includes a supplemental questionnaire at Applications will be evaluated to determine if it meets the minimum qualifications of the job. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase in the process. All communication regarding your application status will be sent via email only.
2. Departmental Hiring Interviews : Accepted applicants will be interviewed by Recreation Staff and offered the hourly position if successful. 3. Background / Pre-employment Process : If applicable, candidates will need to complete a background that may consist of livescan fingerprinting, drug screening, TB test, and any other required screening.
4. New Hire Paperwork : After completion of the background / pre-employment process, successful candidates will complete new hire onboarding which includes paperwork, reviewing of applicable policies, and training.
