Job Description
Department : Pharmacy
Reports To : Pharmacist
FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
Prepared By : Human Resource Department
Summary : Under immediate supervision of the pharmacist, performs work of routine difficulty providing technical and clerical assistance to the pharmacist. This is accomplished by following departmental policies and procedures within the scope of departmental standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities : include the following.
Resolves problems related to customer prescription inquiries
Responsible for implementing inventory control procedures and ordering merchandise within regulatory guidelines
Trains new pharmacy technicians on procedures within the department
Checks and stores drug deliveries
Maintains adequate stock on pharmacy shelves
Operates tablet counting machine
Maintain records and statistics
Knowledge of abbreviations, etc., for interpreting prescriptions and printing labels
Checks in drug orders and reconcile against invoices for receipt and accuracy
Basic math for calculating prescription prices and processing billing slips
Removes boxes from the pharmacy
All technical and non-technical duties are under the supervision of the pharmacist
Communicates with patients on a one-to-one basis accepting and handing out prescriptions
Assist the pharmacist in all aspects of prescription filling
Ongoing pharmaceutical education under direction of the pharmacist
Other duties as assigned.

Education and / or Experience :
High school diploma or GED. Excellent communication skills, knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Previous experience in a health care setting.
Language Skills :
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills :
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability :
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills :
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software and Word Processing software.
