Job Description

The Maintenance Ranger is a vital member of the team at the Scouting America, orange County Council, at the Ed laird Scout Camp at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center. This role is responsible for the upkeep and preservation of our beautiful outdoor spaces and facilities, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors and staff. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the outdoors, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to maintaining high standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Groundskeeping :

Mowing, trimming, and edging lawns and fields

Weeding and maintaining flower beds and other landscaping

Maintaining trails and pathways, including clearing debris and erosion control

Trash removal and litter control throughout the property

Maintaining irrigation systems and ensuring proper watering of plants

Facilities Maintenance :

Performing basic repairs to buildings, fences, and other structures

Painting, staining, and other general upkeep of facilities

Assisting with the setup and breakdown of equipment for programs and events

Maintaining tools and equipment in good working order

Conducting regular inspections of facilities and grounds to identify maintenance needs

Safety and Security :

Ensuring compliance with safety regulations

Monitoring and reporting any hazards or safety concerns

Assisting with emergency response as needed

Securing facilities and grounds after hours

Other :

Providing excellent customer service to visitors and staff

Working effectively both independently and as part of a team

Performing other duties as assigned

Qualifications :

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid driver's license and clean driving record1

Experience with basic landscaping and maintenance tasks

Ability to operate various tools and equipment, including lawnmowers, trimmers, and hand tools

Knowledge of basic safety procedures

Strong work ethic and attention to detail

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

Passion for the outdoors and commitment to environmental stewardship

Physical Demands :

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods

Ability to work in outdoor environments, including heat, cold, and inclement weather
