Job Description :

Regularly perform network maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks related to complex issues. This includes diagnosing and resolving issues related to optical and / or IP backbone networks, ensuring minimal downtime and mitigating repeat offenders

Support on-call rotation focused on nuanced failures and escalations (including weekends and holidays)

Work closely with other engineers, and external vendors. Collaborate on projects, share knowledge, and coordinate efforts to achieve network goals

Maintain detailed documentation of the network's design, configurations, and changes Prepare reports on network performance, incidents, and resolutions

Job Responsibilities :

Incident Response : Drive work investigating complex technical and process issues on a global scale spanning multiple reliability, security, and continuity disciplines for infrastructure spanning thousands of locations during major incidents / site events on edge, caching, and network infrastructure. This will require you to work closely and effectively with a variety of cross functional teams, managed service providers, and third-party vendor partners.

Escalation Management : Participate in the global team's Tier 3 and 4 on-call rotation with the goal of routing issues as needed and understanding how processes or tooling might be improved, skills can be developed, or automation can be implemented to prevent the need to escalate similar issues in the future.

Review and approve equipment configuration prototypes, including network hardware, software, servers, or server operation systems

Review and approve solutions for network problems

Review and approve conceptual, logical or physical network designs

Develop procedures to track, project or report network availability, reliability, capacity or utilization

Develop or recommend network security measures, such as firewalls, network security audits, or automated security probes

Qualifications :

Information Technology Functional Experience : Minimum of 5 years working within network or infrastructure operations, deployment, design, engineering, and / or support teams.

External Vendor Partner Engagement : Minimum of 5 years experience partnering to translate performance issues into improvement plans with enterprise and service provider vendors such as network hardware platforms (Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, and Arista), ITAD vendors, logistics vendors, and colocation vendors

Proficient in at least one of the network domains : IP network, optical network, caching appliance infrastructure, CDN / Edge network, including topology, protocol, hardware and architectures.

Partnership : Experience successfully collaborating across a global team and with cross-functional partners at all levels to include vendor service delivery managers, individual contributors, and people managers.

Business Metrics : Experience identifying key metrics / measures that will be used to evaluate success and validate the business impact of the program

BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.

Skills :

Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently and manage one's time

Expert mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.

Network Protocol : advanced knowledge of TCP / IP, IPv4 / v6, Border Gateway Protocol, Intermediate System to Intermediate System, Open Shortest Path First, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Domain Name System, and / or Multi-protocol Label Switching in complex troubleshooting scenarios. Cisco and Juniper Professional level or equivalent experience.

Must-Have Skills

Long term experience in maintaining and managing network infrastructure

Experience with Incident response and CCCNA certifications

Maintaining IP and optical networks

Experience with network addressing protocols

5+ years in Network engineering

DWDM technology, Maintaining IP and optical networks, network and routing protocols, drive resolutions, network infrastructure, BGP, network addressing protocols, Manage incident response and escalations, CCNA
