Your day as an Assistant Teacher
The Assistant Teacher position at The Emerge School for Autism in Baton Rouge offers a hands-on role in supporting teachers in lesson preparation and student engagement. As an assistant teacher, you will be crucial in classroom management, assisting with behavior management, and tracking student progress. This position involves setting up classroom materials to ensure a conducive learning environment for students and teaching our students Science and Social Studies. What Are We Looking for in an Assistant Teacher?
To excel in the Assistant Teacher role at The Emerge School for Autism in Baton Rouge, candidates must possess an associate's degree and experience in the classroom (years of experience can substitute college 2-1); teaching experience, particularly with children with Autism, ABA experience is preferred but not required. Successful candidates will demonstrate proficiency in collaborating with teachers, overseeing student activities, and providing personalized assistance with assignments. Essential skills include assisting with attendance, homework collection, and task assignment. Assistant teachers must engage with students during lessons, ensuring understanding and explaining concepts to those who need additional support. Strong communication and organizational abilities are essential for preparing progress reports and working closely with teachers to establish academic and social development plans for each student.
The knowledge and skills required for the position are :
- Must collaborate with teachers and oversee students so they get more hands-on attention and personalized help with assignments
- Help take attendance
- Assist with the collection of homework
- Assign tasks to students
- Walk around the classroom to check for understanding and explain concepts to students with trouble.
- Prepare reports about each student's progress and collaborate with the teacher to create a plan for achieving academic and social benchmarks.
