INTRODUCTION : Human Resources will screen applications and resumes. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.

The ideal candidate would have an understanding of the Principles and Practice of Land Surveying in a field an office environment; have a basic understanding of geodesy and mapping datums; know how to setup and operate data collectors, GPS systems, automatic and digital levels and robotic total stations; be knowledgeable of Nevada Revised Statutes NRS, county and city ordinances pertaining land division, platting and requirements; have experience determining property boundary locations according to the BLM manual of Surveying Instructions and common law doctrines and experience using CAD applications to prepare maps and plats; be knowledgeable and have the ability to create legal descriptions and exhibit maps for property conveyances, easements and lease areas; have excellent communication skills and attention to detail and have a positive and approachable attitude; and have the ability to work in fast paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Must possess a Nevada Professional Land Surveyor license.

Must possess a Nevada Water Rights Surveyor license or have the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.

The ideal candidate would have excellent communication skills and attention to detail, a positive and approachable attitude, and have the ability to work in fast paced environment while handling multiple tasks.

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general direction, performs complex professional land survey work involving research and geodetic, control, boundary and topographic field surveys; prepares maps, exhibits, records of survey and legal descriptions; performs quality control reviews of consultant surveyor's work; maintains and updates the District's base station and water facilities control networks; and performs related duties as assigned.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of :

Theory, principles and practices of geodetic, control, boundary and topographic land surveying, including the U.S. Public Land Survey System, applicable U.S. Survey Instruction Manuals and the Manual of Surveying Instructions; scientific principles of geodesy; methods and operations of land survey equipment and software utilized by the District including GPS technology and equipment; the State Plane Coordinate System; local land surveying history and land problems; uses and operations of AutoCAD to produce record maps and other survey products; principles of algebra, plane algebra, geometry and spherical trigonometry and statistics as they apply to performing land survey work; federal, state and local law and regulations applicable to land surveying, property descriptions, water rights and rights of way and easements, including applicable Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code provisions and standards of survey practice; methods and uses of Geographic and Land Information Systems (GIS and LIS); and State of Nevada Traffic Control Guidelines.

Ability to :

Plan and organize work required to complete land surveying assignments with a high degree of accuracy in accordance with all scientific and legal standards and requirements; operate complex survey and GPS data collection equipment and software; prepare and interpret water-right maps and surveys; read, interpret, resolve discrepancies between records and field data and prepare property descriptions; use applicable math, geodesy and scientific principles to complete complex calculations with a high degree of accuracy; use AutoCAD, GPS equipment and software accurately and effectively in conducting and recording survey results; evaluate the work of consultant survey personnel; train others in the use of survey and GPS data capture equipment; prepare clear, concise and accurate technical reports and other documents using a personal computer; clearly and effectively communicate orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with District managers and staff, outside design engineers and survey consultants, representatives of other agencies and others encountered in the course of work.

Training and Experience :

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from a college or university with major course work in civil engineering, land survey or a closely related field; and three years of progressively responsible land survey experience under the direction of a professional land surveyor; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements :

Current registration as a Land Survey Intern in the State of Nevada is required for Land Surveyor. Individuals who are registered as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of Nevada may be appointed to or advanced to Land Surveyor PLS.

Current registration as a Nevada State Water-Right Surveyor, or the ability to become registered within six months of date of hire.

A valid State of Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Possession of a State of Nevada Flagging Certification or the ability to obtain one within six months of date of hire.

Employees are frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, squat or crawl; and reach with hands or arms. The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; depth perception; peripheral vision; and ability to adjust focus.

Specific hearing abilities include the ability to hear signal warnings while working around moving equipment and to differentiate operating equipment sounds.
