THE POSITION
Under direction of a Facilities Manager, performs skilled work in painting, marking, and surface preparation.
CURRENT OPENINGS : Three 12-month / 40 hours per week positions. Salary placement will be on Range 32 on the CSEA Salary Schedule B. Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at Step 1 ($5,470.64 per month) of this salary range.

Essential Duties
- Uses brush, roller, or spray gun in applying paint, varnish, shellac, enamel, lacquer, or other protective or decorative finishes to various surfaces, such as wood, metal, glass, plaster, stucco, wall board, brick, and cement.
- Scrapes, sands, fills, and prepares surfaces for painting or repainting.
- Applies under and finish coats.
- Sizes and tints plaster walls and other surfaces.
- Refinishes furniture, lockers, automotive, and other equipment.
- Erects, rigs, or moves scaffolding and platforms.
- Cleans brushes, tools, and other equipment.
- Paints signs and door numbers, mixes paints, matches blends, harmonizes, and contrasts color.
- Lays out and paints athletic courts and parking lots.
- Estimates labor and material costs.
- Maintains a variety of simple records as required.
- Provides work direction and training to other maintenance personnel assigned to assist on larger projects.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS AMONG RELATED CLASSES
A Maintenance Worker performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in the upkeep of school facilities; performs semi-skilled and skilled functions in one or more of the basic building and maintenance trades.
A Painter performs skilled work in painting, marking, and surface preparation; assists other maintenance workers by performing unskilled and semi-skilled duties in other maintenance trade areas.
A Maintenance Supervisor supervises the maintenance and repair of school facilities; supervises construction work performed by District maintenance personnel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employees in this classification stand, walk, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. (up to 100 lbs. with assistance); climb ladders and stairs; maintain balance; push, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, and bend repeatedly; repetitively use fingers, wrists, and hands while twisting or applying pressure; simultaneously use both arms, legs, and hands; reach overhead; have rapid mental and muscular coordination; hear normal voice conversation; speak clearly; have depth perception and color vision, distinguish shades, see small details and long distances; sit for extended periods of time; operate a vehicle; use a computer, telephone, and radio. All employees must be able to comply with work place safety and regulatory requirements, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and those of any other competent authority.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Employees in this classification work both inside and outside, in changing temperatures, including temperatures below 50° and over 90°, dry atmospheric conditions, poorly ventilated areas, inadequate lighting, wet or damp areas, confined spaces, at heights using ladders or scaffolding, with electrical hazards and dangerous machinery with moving parts, sharp objects, fumes, moderate to high concentrations of silica or allergenic dust, lead, asbestos, gases, chemicals, odors, toxic materials, explosive substances, loud noises, vibrations, hands in water, exposure to minor contagious illnesses (cold, flu, etc.), exposure to severe contagious illnesses (tuberculosis, measles, mumps, chicken pox, hepatitis, etc.), moving vehicles, in direct contact with the public, students, and District personnel, and in the absence of direct supervision.

General Information
The screening process for this position, which may be subject to modification, will include some form of an application screening, initial screening of qualifications, documentation / certification screening, and in some instances supplemental application screening. A passing score must be attained on each portion of the exam to advance to the next stage and ultimate placement on the eligibility list, which depending on the classification, may be in force for six months or one year.

Paid Holidays

Health Benefits
For positions 35 hours or more per week the District contributes $12,900 (subject to change) toward annual premium for medical, dental, vision and life insurance coverage. Partially paid benefits are available for part-time (20-34) hour employees. The District participates in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Lifetime retirement benefits provided for eligible retirees.

Paid Sick Leave
Every regular classified employee, probationary or permanent, can earn paid sick leave credit(s) based on one day for each month in which such employees are in a paid status with the District. Earned, but unused sick leave can accumulate without limit. Full-time classified employees (those who work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week and 12 months per year) will normally earn twelve (12) days of sick leave credit(s) during each fiscal year.
