Under the supervision of the Senior Transportation Engineer, the Transportation Engineering Technician is responsible for providing a wide variety of nonprofessional, technical expertise, quality assurance, guidance, and assistance to Supervisors, Managers, Project Engineers, Contract Managers, and Project Analysts in project delivery matters for District 1 Highway Maintenance (HM), Minor B, and Maintenance Facilities Operations programs. Duties are performed in office or field setting including, but not limited to, drafting, resource estimations, field inspections, scheduling, contracting, and procurement within the District 1, Maintenance & Operations, Maintenance Division, Maintenance Engineering unit. Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required when operating a state-owned, leased, or private vehicle while performing State business.

Working Conditions
Position located at 1656 Union Street, Eureka, Humboldt County
Required to travel and work outdoors at state facilities and project sites. May be exposed to varying climatic conditions including sun, wind, rain, snow, ice, or other conditions such as dust, dirt, noise, water treatment systems, chemicals, odors, construction equipment, motoring traffic, animals, insects, and loud noises. While working in the field, the employee may be required to enter confined spaces or climb high structures such as water tank ladders, work in lane closures, or standing or bending for periods of time. Will be required to climb hike steep grades to inspect and document facilities and gather information for projects. Employee will be required to drive a motor vehicle. Employee must have a valid driver’s license when operating a vehicle duringwork time. Proper Personal Protective Equipment shall be worn as required.Typical working hours will be set sometime between 6 : 00 a.m. and 6 : 00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, excluding State holidays. Vacations may be restricted during peak times.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Theposition(s) require(s) a valid and unrestricted Class C driver’s license.
