Your contribution!

Reporting to the Director, Transmission, the Interconnection Engineer will manage interconnection-related activities for wind, solar, and storage projects located within the United States and Canada.

Your day-to-day!

  • Lead the preparation of interconnection application (IA) packages and manage and monitor interconnection requests, adn work closely with transmission providers to manage the interconnection study process;
  • Perform transmission power flow studies to evaluate and assess the feasibility of new interconnections and provide support to Origination and Development teams;
  • Conduct transmission and interconnection due diligence to identify and mitigate queue process timelines and risks, adequately estimate timing, risk and cost impacts;
  • Interface with and manage transmission and interconnection related third-party engineers and consultants as necessary;
  • Negociate and manage Interconnection Agreements to coordinate with in-house and outside counsel to ensure integration, efficiency, cost-effectiveness and support IA milestones;
  • Participate in industry activities and keep abreast of market developments and ongoing changes related to Transmission Planning;
  • Coordinate, review and provide technical insight throughout feasibility, system impact, facility and GIA phases of the Project related to steady state, short-circuit, stability studies, proposed interconnection facilities, network and contingent upgrades;
  • Prepare power flow and stability models, interconnection applications, technical specifications, and single line diagrams for renewable projects.

Your skills, our requirements!

  • Bachelors of Science and / or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience in transmission and interconnection planning for renewable projects (wind, solar, battery storage expertise preferred);
  • Self starter, versatile team player, excellent oral, written communication skills and works towards mutual team goals;
  • Experience working on interconnection activities throughout the U.S. (strong PJM, WECC, and MISO market knowledge, a plus);
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret regulatory documents, transmission studies, engineering reports and interconnection agreements;
  • Must be proficient in using PowerGEM's TARA, GE's PSLF and Siemens PSSE suite of programs. Knowledge of Aspen, PowerWorld, Python and PSCAD programs is an asset.
  • Knowledge of LMP and curtailment analysis through the use of VelocitySuite, SERVM, PROMOD, and SCED is a strong plus;
  • Familiarity with PSCAD software is a plus to build models and support interconnection requirements;
  • Highly developed organizational and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate across various teams and all levels;
  • Maintain highest work quality, identify and inform management of potential technical and economical project risks.
  • Additional considerations!

  • The position could be either done from the San Diego office or remote within the US;
  • This position is a P3 level with a base salary of $84,300.00 - $134,400.00, exclusive of fringe benefits and / or potential bonuses.
