Department Summary :
Are you passionate about Operational Technology (OT) or Control Systems and eager to explore their intersection with the cyber world? If you've worked with OT / Control Systems and are driven to support a vital Deterrence mission, the Cyber Physical Deterrence Technologies (L543) department is your next destination. We specialize in cutting-edge technologies designed to protect our infrastructure from adversaries. Our work includes advanced technical deterrence strategies like forensics, attribution, device countermeasures, adversary emulation, and deception. We also emphasize policy-based solutions, crafting clear, coordinated responses to cybersecurity threats and defining the consequences for those who target global infrastructure. At L543, we scrutinize both domestic and foreign control and weapons systems for vulnerabilities in hardware and software. Our approach to deterrence blends technical prowess with strategic policy support, ensuring a comprehensive defense. Join us in shaping the future of deterrence technology.
Roles and Responsibilities :
The Cyber Physical Deterrence Technologies (L543) department in the Cyber Infrastructure Protection Innovation Center (CIPIC) is seeking a Department Chief Engineer (CE) to be part of the department leadership team to advance the delivery of high quality, high impact technical work for our sponsors, drive innovative solutions, develop department talent, and provide thought leadership. The CE works in partnership with the Department Manager, Group Leaders, Division Chief Engineer, and technical staff to collaborate across the department in both operational and strategic capacities.
The CE is directly involved in the department's sponsor-oriented technical strategies focusing on cybersecurity, with a focus on five Technical Capability Areas within the department :
- OT / IIoT Device Security,
- Countermeasures for Operational Technology
- Weapon Systems and Critical Support Infrastructure
- Autonomy
- Cyber Command and Control
The CE will contribute to the TCAs ongoing evaluation and evolution, as needed, and their execution. The CE serves as a senior technical advisor and contributor, provides thought leadership, identifies opportunities for integration, and drives innovative solutions for sponsors.
Stay ahead of emerging technologies and contribute to department and division strategy development, identifying opportunities to enhance our sponsors' missions. As a connector, you'll influence hiring, training, and growth to align with the department, division, and MITRE's strategic goals. This exciting role allows you to dedicate 10% of your time to these transformative efforts.
Key Functions :
Lead the development of technical quality approaches in partnership with the other Department Chief Engineers and the Division Chief Engineer
Support department leadership, and lead, as needed, department work shaping activities, including engagement planning, staffing needs, and future growth
Work with the Division Chief Engineer and other Department Chief Engineers to determine the emerging cybersecurity technologies that should be the focus of training and hiring in L542 and L540
Work with Division Chief Engineer and other Department Chief Engineers to find connections to MITRE's research programs and identify opportunities in the research programs to apply to the department's work program
Coach department members to grow their knowledge and capability
Basic Qualifications :
Proficiency in C / C++ for embedded systems development and firmware modification
