Department Information

Within this setting, the Department of Curriculum, Foundations, and Reading, one of four departments within the College of Education, includes 27 full-time faculty members in five areas : educational foundations, educational psychology, curriculum studies, literacy studies / reading education, and educational research. The Department offers undergraduate and graduate level courses and multiple graduate programs, including a master's degree and educational specialist's degree in reading education, and a doctoral degree in curriculum studies. The current curriculum studies faculty members provide comprehensive support for the college's undergraduate programs and the department's doctoral program, including the teaching, advising, and mentoring of doctoral candidates. The individual hired in this position is expected to contribute to the college's goal of continued excellence and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service, and outreach.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Department Chair of Curriculum, Foundations and Reading, the Assistant or Associate Professor of Curriculum Studies will teach undergraduate courses in the social foundations of education and graduate courses within the curriculum studies program. In addition to teaching, the position requires student advisement, maintaining an active, productive research agenda, and service responsibilities to the department, college, and university. The position is an academic year, 10-month, tenure-track appointment.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Curriculum Studies, or a closely related field, with at least 18 graduate semester hours in social foundations of education or curriculum studies by August 1, 2025.

  • Commitment to excellence in teaching;
  • Demonstrated record of or potential for developing scholarship;
  • K-12 teaching experience or university teaching experience;
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations;
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the department, college, and university;
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Demonstrated record of or potential for securing extramural funding for research and / or training;

Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.

Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.

Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research / creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.

Minimum of 5 years full-time college / university teaching experience at the assistant professor level is required for the rank of associate professor along with a strong record of research and service with publications and presentations in professional venues

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Professor :

  • College / university full-time teaching experience;
  • Experience conducting research in schools, neighborhoods, and / or communities;
  • Technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology into teaching;
  • Experience working with diverse student populations;
  • Expertise and scholarship that diversify the department.

    Preferred Qualifications for Associate Professor :

  • College / university full-time teaching experience in curriculum studies, social foundations, or related fields;
  • Experience in chairing and serving on dissertation committees;
  • Experience engaging in curriculum inquiries or conducting research in schools, neighborhoods, and / or communities;
  • Technological literacy and a commitment to integrate technology into teaching;
  • Experience working with diverse student populations;
  • Expertise and scholarship that diversify the department.
