Job Summary
The Market Chief Financial Officer (Market CFO) is responsible for leading financial operations across multiple acute care hospitals within a designated market. The Market CFO provides financial leadership, strategic planning, and operational support to ensure financial health and compliance. This role collaborates with hospital executives and department heads to drive decision-making, cost management, and performance improvement initiatives that align with the health system's mission and goals.
Essential Functions
Manages overall financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, audits, tax, and financial planning activities, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Works with senior leadership to develop and implement policies, procedures, and short- and long-range goals that support financial performance and regulatory compliance.
Provides financial guidance to executives, managers, and department heads, fostering a culture of financial accountability and active participation in decision-making.
Ensures that all health systems within the market comply with financial regulatory requirements, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
Contributes financial expertise to the planning and development of new services, focusing on generating profitable revenue and supporting strategic growth.
Collaborates with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to identify opportunities for cost management, eliminating non-value costs, and improving operational efficiency.
Analyzes financial data to support organization-wide performance improvement initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
Represents the hospitals in financial matters at medical staff meetings, hospital board meetings, and relevant community meetings as required.
Participates in monthly operational reviews, corporate office meetings, and other strategic discussions to ensure financial alignment across the market.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Health Administration (MHA), or a related field preferred
More than 10 years of experience in healthcare financial management required and
5-7 years of experience in a senior leadership role overseeing financial operations across multiple facilities required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of healthcare finance, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on cost management and performance improvement.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with hospital leaders, staff, and external stakeholders.
Proficiency in financial management software and Google Suite applications.
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, fostering a culture of accountability and financial stewardship.
Licenses and Certifications
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required
Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) preferred
