SUMMARY OF POSITION

Under general supervision, the purpose of this entry-level professional position is to provide leadership at a front-line customer service level, providing reference, readers' advisory, library programming, and other information services to library customers. Responsibilities may differ according to assigned area. This position will work 30 hours per week on average.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Helps create an environment where customers have the best possible library experience.
  • Designs, creates, facilitates, and implements engaging public classes and programming.
  • Assists customers with readers' advisory, reference, circulation, and information services.
  • Manages and develops assigned areas of the library collection.
  • Facilitates and participates as an active member on cross-functional teams.
  • Builds and facilitates relationships with other City departments and area organizations.
  • Acts as a library and City ambassador at community events.
  • Assists with development and improvement of policies, procedures, workflows, and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Acts occasionally as "Librarian in Charge".
  • Depending on assigned area, catalogs materials, maintains a budget, coordinates volunteers, and coordinates library publicity.
  • Attends and participates in professional meetings, conferences, and seminars.
  • Stays informed of professional developments and trends.
  • OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS :

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Master's Degree in Library Science or closely related field.

    Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    One (1) year previous experience and / or training involving library reference desk. Bilingual language skills.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have Class C Texas Driver's License.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing
