Under direct supervision of physicians, this job plans and prepares for patients of all ages. Coordinates, promotes and maintains agreements between hospitals and based on the needs of the department. Maintains knowledge about surgeon's blocks and schedules patients appropriately based on surgeon, case length, and day of week.
Education
Required – High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred - Graduate of a medical assistant program.
Certification
Preferred - PR Health Care Provider Certification.
Work Experience
Required – 2 years of PSA or medical assistant experience.
Preferred – Experience in an ambulatory care setting.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
Strong interpersonal / customer service skills.
Ability to maintain positive and professional demeanor under stressful conditions.
Cognitive skills and ability to interpret assessments to meet patient care needs to determine priorities among multiple demands.
Ability to exhibit responsibility for professional development and maintaining required clinical knowledge, training and credentials.
Job Duties
Answers, returns, and documents department telephone calls with patients in a timely manner.
Assists in the daily operation of the department.
Schedules and reschedules patients appointments by phone or in person, including transferring patients to the appropriate departments for scheduling and updating necessary information.
Schedules surgeries and preauthorization’s for IUD’s and high cost injections.
Provides daily census reports including physician notification (as applicable).
Inputs call schedule and makes changes as needed.
Adapts behavior to specific patient population, including but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
Performs other duties as required.

Physical and Environmental Demands
