Overview
The Development Giving Officer is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a portfolio of mid-level prospects and donors to secure philanthropic support for Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. This position will work in collaboration with the major giving team to assure ample current use and endowed funds are raised to enhance the overall mission of the Virginia Health Sciences. The focus of this position is to manage a portfolio of mid-level giving donors by initiating, cultivating, solicitating and stewarding individuals who desire to make an impact across the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.
Responsibilities
Portfolio Management : Manage a portfolio of 130 - 150 individuals, including community members, alumni and grateful patients. Conduct meaningful prospect engagement through meetings, emails, and phone calls. Align portfolio to qualify, cultivate and solicit mid-level gifts. Ensure that activity, productivity and portfolio goals are achieved.
Gift Strategy : Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit, and steward mid-level giving donors, typically at the $10,000 - $50,000 level, in support of medical education, research, clinical programs, and special projects. Evaluate donor relationships and involve annual giving and major giving as needed.
Funding Initiatives : Manage the production of mid-level giving annual appeals (micro campaigns) donor renewals, and donor qualifications as well as other correspondence and stewardship specific to assigned portfolio.
Collaboration : Work closely with front line fundraisers and campus leaders, primarily department chairs and program directors to facilitate relationships between donors, prospective donors and internal stake holders to deepen donor engagement and impact.
Education : Serve as a development department liaison, including educating department colleagues on programs, philanthropic priorities and other relevant information for assigned focus areas. Orient and educate colleagues on relevant information so that other team members can successfully engage prospective donors with the mission and needs of the departments.
Qualifications
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's degree in a related field of study such as nonprofit management, business, healthcare or public administration and / or marketing related areas of study.Prior experience demonstrating responsibility in development / fundraising with a solid understanding of fundraising principles and methodologies is required. fundraising experience within a medium to large scale non-profit organization, preferably within academic medicine, higher education, or healthcare. Successful track record of developing relationships to secure philanthropic gifts of $10,000 - $50,000.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES :
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building abilities with mid-level prospects, donors, and internal stakeholders.
- Experience with donor management systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce).
- Ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies.
