Position Details
District Web Administrator

BASIC FUNCTION
The Web Administrator provides leadership and technical expertise in the design, development, management, and ongoing support of the Portland Public Schools (PPS) public-facing websites and internal intranet systems. This position ensures the District's web and intranet presence is accessible, up to date with current and accurate information, user-friendly, secure, and aligned with the district's communication goals, branding guidelines, and educational mission. The Web Administrator collaborates closely with departments, schools, and stakeholders to ensure timely content updates and compliance with digital accessibility standards. The Web Administrator will also participate in the development and implementation of policies and practices related to website and social media usage and compliance.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

- Manage the day-to-day operations of the PPS public websites and intranet, ensuring functionality, uptime, performance, and security.
- Develop, implement, and maintain website architecture and standards for usability, accessibility (WCAG 2.1), and branding.
- Design, configure, and administer web content management systems (CMS), including user permissions, templates, and workflows.
- Partner with Communications, IT, Human Resources, and other departments to support the publication of content that meets strategic and operational goals.
- Provide training and technical support to department and school web content editors.
- Monitor and respond to performance issues, broken links, and other technical problems related to the website and intranet platforms.
- Oversee web analytics tools and provide data and reports to inform strategy and content improvements.
- Lead or assist with website redesign and intranet development projects, including vendor coordination and stakeholder engagement.
- Ensure all web and intranet content complies with ADA, Section 508, and other applicable digital accessibility requirements.
- Coordinate web content archiving and document retention in accordance with district policies and legal mandates.
- Perform regular audits and tests to ensure website quality and efficiency and improve the user experience.
- Keep up to date with and research and recommend new tools, technologies, and practices to enhance digital communications and internal collaboration.
- Participate in emergency communications planning and execution related to the website and intranet
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Portland Public Schools Racial Equity and Social Justice Commitment by developing a thorough knowledge and application of the district Racial Educational Equity Policy, the PPS RESJ Framework and Plan, and the PPS RESJ Partnerships Investment Strategy and other board policies; participate in staff development, in-services and trainings related to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace and in K - 12 education; model appropriate behaviors; develop, recommend and implement improvements to educational practices with awareness and understanding of their impact in a racially and culturally diverse community.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education : Associates degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Communications, or a related field. Work experience may be a substitute for a degree.
Experience : Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience in web administration, including managing CMS platforms, designing user experiences, and ensuring accessibility compliance with demonstrated experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and CMS platforms (e.g., Drupal, WordPress, or comparable systems). Experience managing intranet systems, preferably in a public sector or educational environment, preferred.
Any other combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Special Requirements :
Work hours may include on- and off-campus evening and weekend activities and meetings and district, school and student functions.
Some positions in this classification may require the use of a personal automobile and possession of a valid Class C Oregon driver's license.

Portland Public Schools is a public employer and participates in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS / OPSRP). Eligible employees are required by statute to contribute 6% of salary on a pre-tax basis to OPSRP / IAP, after serving six months under a PERS employer.
